Grassroots Efforts to Insure Kids in Northern Kentucky
United Way of Greater Cincinnati has been working in partnership with United Way of Kentucky to enroll Northern Kentucky children in KCHIP (Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program). In order to reach eligible but uninsured kids across the Northern Kentucky region, United Way has taken a grassroots approach to educate families about the program. A few examples of their strategies include:
- Staffing information tables at school orientations to reach parents at the beginning of the school year
- Sending KCHIP flyers home with student report cards, i.e. 5,000 flyers were mailed to parents of Campbell County students
- Partnering with libraries and locally owned pharmacies to distribute KCHIP flyers, i.e. several hundred flyers have been made available in libraries and pharmacies across four Northern Kentucky counties
- Partnering with local Dollar General stores to include KCHIP flyers in bags at checkout
