United Ways of California: Connecting California's Kids to Coverage

United Ways of California has proudly accepted the Connecting Kids to Coverage Challenge.  California has much work to do to enroll the nearly 700,000 eligible but unenrolled children in our state.  To this end, UWCA works with our 36 local United Ways across the state and with our children’s health advocacy partner organizations to pave the way for these children to receive the coverage and care they need.

UWCA and our partners advocate for simplification of enrollment and renewal processes and streamlining of eligibility determinations.  As a part of our advocacy efforts, we educate business leaders, legislators, and other community leaders about the importance of health coverage programs for kids.

Statewide, UWCA promotes the 2-1-1 information and referral services as a way to quickly and easily connect Californians with trained call specialists who can help them access health coverage options for which they qualify.  Call specialists can help callers determine if their children qualify for Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, or another local coverage option, direct them to the appropriate enrollment avenues, and conduct follow-up to see that the referral was successful.

UWCA also spreads the word about the availability of coverage choices through our newsletters and website as well as using social media like Facebook and Twitter to get the word out to our communities and partners.
